To the days I felt lost (Summary and learnings)

Image
Read the story here:  https://yunn0510writes.blogspot.com/2023/02/to-days-i-felt-lost.html  Event 1 Never felt much anxiety before, so when I first feel the anxiety I don't know what to do. Action taken:  1. Face the anxiety, review on personal performance/ expectations/ feelings/ major encounters.  2. Find out what is the root cause to what happened. Define it as detailed as possible, what/ why/ where/ when/ who/ how.  3. Look for solutions and act on the solution.  Event 2 Having high expectation of myself. (This has been an old habit of mine)  Action taken:  1. Accept that either I am just like that or do more to reach that expectation.  2. Occasionally do reality check to make sure that my expectation is not unrealistic.  3. Create small goals or steps, achieve it step by step, there is no shortcuts.  Event 3  Fear of adulting / fear of unknown.  Action taken:  1. Be willing to learn, learn anything and everything...

To the days I felt lost

It's like finishing a 800m track, I'm at the finishing line, neither top runners nor the last.  The slight happiness for completing the course, I felt proud of myself, but anxiety strike as soon as I remember that I'll be leaving this track to somewhere unknown... A little bit of background The one con of schooling system (in my opinion) is that, I am placed into this track, and I got so used to this one direction. Ever since primary school, participating in competitions, scoring in exams, be discipline, earn higher positions, and so on filled up my school life and created who I am today.  I would say, my primary and secondary schools aren't top-tiered school. Hence being the top student there doesn't boost much of my confidence, plus I never did well in off-campus competitions. Which I come to terms with myself that I'm might be above average or maybe average, since I'm not at the top (from my perspective).  The idea lead me to think of university as a bigg...

大学Recap

那些大学时光 の Learnings & Sharings Drawing as Hobby VS Graphic Design Drawing and Graphic Design relates to each other as both communicates ideas through visual. BUT!! They are actually two different major.  P/s: You may refer to my previous post to see the pathway of Graphic Design.  (A high level overview) If you prefer:  i) Traditional drawing >> look into fine art studies  ii) Photoshop, Procreate, Sketchbook App >> look into Illustration, Digital Art, Concept Art etc.  iii) Adobe Illustrator, layout arrangement, logo design >> Graphic Design  Gains and Pains  Gains:  1 - Self development (career & mindset)  2 - Friendship & Networking  3 - The sandbox to make mistakes  Pains:  1 - Self doubt 2 - Every choice counts  3 - Quality of education varies  To me, university is the best time for you to explore and discover anything you wanted to know.  Attending university is not just abou...

In-house or Freelance or Creative Agency? How to look for the creative solutions you need? In-house designer Pros Works for your brand only Is always available to you Knows your brand’s style inside and out Cons Needs to be paid even when you don’t have any design needs Will have an area of expertise they specialize in Has a set capacity if workload gets high Freelance designers Pros Paid on a project-to-project basis Can be hired for each project according to their specialization Can be hired flexibly whenever you have design needs Cons Won’t be as familiar with your brand, so you’ll need to brief them well Won’t always be available to join meetings or do last-minute tasks It takes effort to find and evaluate the right freelancers A creative agency Pros Have a team with diverse skills to work on your design needs More well-rounded when dealing with projects An additional level of professionalism to the table as they have a reputation to uphold. Who to look for to spice up your business creatively?

One issue I noticed about creative field is that clients are usually non-creative and they might not actually know who they should look for when it comes to hiring. Here's for non-creatives to understand better who you should be looking for to spice up your business!  *Unless the designer themselves master the field too 🔎 Graphic designer (usually all static designs), they can do: -         i) Branding and visual identity (yes, we use colors, text styles and design elements to make your brand unique and visually communicate your brand to the targeted audience) -         ii) Marketing and advertising design (we do printed designs, social media, ads banner, etc. We can do copywriting*, photography* and video editing* too but we aren’t the real pro in these) -         iii) Photo editing (eg. touch up photos, photos manipulation) -         iv) Website ...

6 Time Management Tips ⏳

Image
Yunn is a Graphic Design Degree Student. Here's some of her tips in time management.  1) Keep track of time >> Make it a habit to check what time is it, put your watch and clocks at visible places. 2) Observe your "default mode" >> assigning an ideal timetable and forcing yourself to follow it is simply a torture, find out your default schedule/ work patterns then make adjustment to it. 3) Start with small changes >> 1 hour work-out seems too torturing? Do a 10 mins work-out instead. Build up the habit first then slowly extend the duration. 4) Know your priorities >> make a list, set your own date for each task, numbered them and do it one by one 5) Make use of technology >>use focus app, calendar reminder, alarm clocks or to-do list application to help remembering the tasks 6) Just do it >> for things that needs to be done no matter what, eg. school assignment, throw away all those ("ah, I'm...

Things you need to learn in university that no one tells you

Image
Image credited to RawPixel      Entering university, you only have a few hours classes per day, there's no strict teachers there shouting and yelling at you for what you have to do and you complete a subject within one semester (big contrast to secondary education where we work on the same few subjects for years until the final exam). Receiving this sudden bunch of free time and freedom, it may caused most of us to feel happy at the same time feeling lost.      A lot of you probably got yourself into university just for the piece of paper or just because our past education have been telling us to get a tertiary education so that you can get a better job. However it should be you pursuing tertiary education for the sake of learning knowledge.      I disagree with slacking, procrastination, splurging, ghosting or entering university just for getting a relationship. Well, we are young adults, of course we can enjoy the life, but please learn wha...
